Creating spaces where LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults feel safe and affirmed in their identities leads to better physical and mental health outcomes. Additionally, LGBTQ+ patients cite multiple barriers to adequate and evidence-based health care, thus increasing awareness of how to serve this patient population increases opportunities to receive this vital care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize language that creates affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ patients

  • Identify unique physical and mental health risks faced by LGBTQ+ patients

  • Describe special considerations for LGBTQ+ patients when considering contraceptive counseling
